Childrens Art Classes

Have fun and learn to draw

These classes are very popular and loved by all (children and teachers). Many children, from as young as six sometimes, have a real love of drawing, and so many 'art' classes are actually 'craft' classes. Not this one!

As with all of Julie's courses, they are 'drawing' based, so every session includes a drawing session of some kind with Julie. This may be pencils, charcoal, pastel, watercolours etc, from a still-life subject, or perhaps a portrait or a landscape, whatever Julie has prepared. They then move on to do some three-dimensional work with another, like-minded teacher, which may be papermaking, bookbinding, maskmaking, clay modelling.

Julie's experience in teaching has convinced her that our creative side spills over into other areas, be it music, love of nature, flower arranging or whatever, so the children's days sometimes include some drama, group games or music.

Some of the areas that can be covered in the childrens classes:

  Pencils Paper Making
  Charcoal Book Binding
  Pastel Mask Making
  Watercolours Clay Modelling
  Still-Life Drama
  Portrait Group Games
  Landscape Music

There is more to it than just painting

The thing to remember when booking your children into the class is the experience they are gathering, as much as the quality of their finished work - though often this is wonderful! It's not the individual subjects that are important. Classes have the consistency of drawing and painting, then the value of trying different things following on from that.

Ages range from 6 to 14! And yes, there are always plenty of boys as well as girls.

When children reach 13 or 14 they can feel its time to move on - the actual age varies from child to child, and the classes are geared to suit all ages. We now offer teenagers courses for children aged 12 and up.

However, if your child is ready, then they may attend the regular courses for adults. Just call Julie for advice on this and to discuss your requirements.
